According to Mercedes-Benz, with this new engine the CL550 hits 60 mph in 4.8 seconds. The Marcedes CL550 is strangely sluggish. Along with this new engine comes a button that toggles the car between Economy and Sport modes. The seven-speed automatic delivers smooth shifts, enhancing the luxury experience.

One little complaint about the "CL550's" suspension is that Mercedes-Benz puts the button to switch it to Sport mode next to the LCD, a difficult place to reach when the car is under way and illogically far away from the Economy/Sport mode button for the power train.

And like the button says, this suspension offers a Sport mode. When engaged, the car does not suddenly become a superstiff low-to-the-ground sports car. The ride stiffens up a little, and the car handles cornering with more ease.

Nicely updated for the "2011 model "year, Mercedes-Benz has addressed the primary quibble I had with the CL-Class, while introducing other improvements to make the car an irresistible package. Every comfort, convenience and safety feature currently available is included in the car. Outrageously prodigious at elevated speeds, the CL550 actually lowers itself on the highway to improve its aerodynamics and handling. Turn the steering wheel full lock in either direction and the front wheels articulate practically perpendicularly to the car.

Long story short, the Mercedes-Benz CL550 4Matic is nothing less than a world-class, state of the art luxurious high performance sports coupe.

The second time I drove the E550, the weather was crisper and cooler, and with both heated/ventilated seats and Airscarf—which gently blows warm air around your neck—turned on and floor heat turned on, we were able to enjoy top-down driving quite comfortably.
The good: The adaptive cruise control system in the 2011 Mercedes-Benz E550 Cabriolet can bring the car to a complete stop and is also integral to its collision mitigation system. Sound quality is very detailed from the Harman Kardon audio system. The navigation system dynamically routes around traffic.

The bad: The convertible top affects trunk space. The Cabriolet is a new version for 2011, offering open-top driving in a midsize sport luxury vehicle. Unlike competitors, Mercedes-Benz sticks with a soft top for the E550 Cabriolet, rather than the retractable hard tops coming into vogue.

Mercedes-Benz's Air Scarf technology uses fans in the headrests to blow warm air on front passengers' necks, making top-down driving in colder weather comfortable. Tight sound
An optional Harman Kardon audio system made listening to music in the car an enjoyable experience, with the top up. But this system does not adapt well to top-down driving. Although the Mercedes-Benz E550 Cabriolet does not have Bluetooth streaming audio, there is a Bluetooth phone system. This system lacks any text message functions.

The 2011 Mercedes Benz SLK Class comes with standard safety features which include antilock brakes, side airbags, traction and stability control and knee airbags.

The SLK55 AMG has been discontinued. The SLK350 rides on new 18-inch split five-spoke wheels, and both the SLK300 and SLK350 come standard with the sport body styling, which includes a revised front air dam, side skirts, a rear apron and a trunk spoiler. Previously, those features were part of the Sport Package.

2011 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class

The SL550's engine remains unchanged, with a 5.5-liter V8 delivering 382 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 391 pound-feet of torque between 2,800 and 4,800 rpm. Although, the latest model enjoys a slight bump in fuel economy to 14 city, 22 highway.

The car's steering system has been improved to feature a variable rack ratio, which adjusts in line with the steering angle, increasing sharply as soon as this reaches five degrees. Now available is the Intelligent Light System, featuring five distinct functions, which are automatically selected. They are: country mode, motorway mode, enhanced fog lamps, cornering light function and active light function.

When the active light function is activated, the headlamps pivot to the side in line with the steering angle when the driver enters a bend, allowing them to see around 80 feet further into a long bend. The cornering light function is activated automatically at speeds below 44 mph.

Interior
The interior has been improved with better seats, a new-look three-spoke leather steering wheel, and a completely restyled instrument cluster.

Features
Mercedes has improved its COMAND infotainment system, which provides access to information, entertainment and communications. The sound system has an output of 510 watts.

The Passenger Van and MiniBus can be equipped with a rear heater, rear air-conditioning and rear windshield wipers. Every 2011 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is rear-wheel drive. Every 2011 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter comes standard with stability and traction control, and front airbags. Optional are a driver side airbag, driver and front passenger side airbags packaged together, front side curtain airbags, parking sensors, a back-up alarm and a rearview camera.
